Ebe Walter Tunnell (31 December 1844-18 December 1917) was the Democratic Governor of Delaware from 19 January 1897 to 15 January 1901, succeeding William T. Watson and preceding John Hunn.

Biography[]

Ebe Walter Tunnell was born in Ocean View, Delaware in 1844, and he ran a drug and hardware business in Lewes before serving in the State House from 1871 to 1873, as Clerk of the Peace for Sussex County from 1885 to 1890, and as Governor from 1897 to 1901. He adopted a new constitution which allowed for Governors to serve a second term, eliminated the poll tax, and created the office of Lieutenant Governor. He died in 1917.
