
East Orange is a city in Essex County, New Jersey that was incorporated on 4 March 1863. The city was named for the Dutch House of Orange, to which King William III of England belonged. The city borders Newark to the east and south, South Orange to the southwest, Orange to the west, and Glen Ridge and Bloomfield to the north. East Orange became a heavily black area; out of its population of 64,789 in 2016, 88.51% was African-American.
