The East Jersey State Prison (EJSP), also known as Rahway State Prison, is a maximum-security institution located in Avenel, New Jersey. The prison is located just outside of Rahway in Woodbridge Township, and the prison was known as "Rahway" until 1988. Established in 1896, the prison was the first reformatory in New Jersey, and it housed 1,500 men in 2013.
