Eadwald of East Anglia

Eadwald of East Anglia (751-800) was King of East Anglia from 796 to 800, succeeding Aethelberht II and preceding Aethelstan.

Biography[]

Eadwald was born in East Anglia in 751, the son of King Aethelberht II of East Anglia. He obtained the kingship in 796, following a two-year interval in which King Offa of Mercia claimed the kingship of East Anglia. He reigned until his death in 800, and it was not until 827 that another East Anglian held the throne, as Coenwulf of Mercia took the throne on Eadwald's death.
