Eadberht of Northumbria

Eadberht of Northumbria (690-20 August 768) was King of Northumbria from 737 to 758, succeeding Ceolwulf of Northumbria and preceding Oswulf of Northumbria.

Biography[]

Eadberht was born in Ripon, North Yorkshire, England in 690, the cousin of King Ceolwulf of Northumbria. He succeeded his cousin on his abdication in 737, and he was forced to fight against the bids of rival families for power. Eadberht abdicated in 758 to retire to a monastery, repeating his cousin's action. He died in York in 768.
