Dwight Foster (7 December 1757 – 29 April 1823) was a member of the US House of Representatives from Massachusetts' 2nd district from 1793 to 1795 (succeeding Benjamin Goodhue and preceding William Lyman) and from MA 4 from 1795 to 1799 (preceding Levi Lincoln Sr.). He was also a US Senator from 6 June 1800 to 2 March 1803, succeeding Samuel Dexter and preceding Timothy Pickering. He was a member of the Federalist Party.
Biography[]
Dwight Foster was born in Brookfield, Massachusetts in 1757, and he became a lawyer in 1778. He began his law practice in Rhode Island, but he returned to Massachusetts to serve as justice of the peace of Worcester County from 1781 to 1823 and as its sheriff in 1792. From 1791 to 1792 and from 1808 to 1809, he served in the State House of Representatives, and he served in the US House of Representatives from 1793 to 1799 and in the US Senate from 1800 to 1803, filling the vacancy caused by Samuel Dexter's resignation. He died in 1823.
