The Dutch Labor Party (PvdA) is a social democratic political party in the Netherlands, founded in 1946 as a merger of three left-wing parties in the aftermath of World War II. The party was one of the most powerful in the Netherlands, although it failed in its attempt to unite progressives against the forces of conservatism during the 20th century, remaining a "socialist pillar". It would win several elections, and it was in a coalition government from 1989 to 2002, from 2006 to 2010, and from 2012, forming an alliance with the conservative liberal People's Party for Freedom and Democracy.
