Beylerbey Duqaq of Damascus

Beylerbey Duqaq of Damascus (1080-8 June 1104) was the Beylerbey of Damascus.

Biography[]

Abu Nasr Shams al-Muluk Duqaq was the son of Tutush I and the brother of Radwan of Aleppo, and in 1095 Duqaq gained al-Jazira while Radwan gained Syria after the death of their father. Duqaq rebelled and seized Damascus, causing a civil war in the Beylerbeylik of Damascus between Radwan, Duqaq, and other Seljuk nobles. In 1097-1098 the civil war was interrupted by the First Crusade, and Antioch was seized by the crusades. Duqaq's reinforcements were defeated, and in 1100 he was defeated by Baldwin I of Jerusalem at Nahr el-Kalb near Beirut. He fell ill in 1104 and made Toghtekin the atabeg of Damascus before he died.
