Duncan IV of Fife (1285-1353) was Earl of Fife from 1288 to 1353, succeeding Duncan III of Fife and preceding Isabella of Fife.
Biography[]
Duncan was the son of Duncan III of Fife, who was murdered in 1288, and he succeeded his father as Earl of Fife not long after he was born. He missed the crowning of John Balliol in 1292 due to his youth and the crowning of Robert Bruce in 1306 due to his captivity in England, having his sister Isabella MacDuff officiate in his stead. After being captured at the Battle of Dupplin Moor in 1332, Duncan switched sides and crowned Edward Balliol as king. However, he fought for Scotland at the Battle of Halidon Hill a year later, and he was once more captured in battle. He died in 1353, and he was succeeded by his daughter, Isabella of Fife.
