Burgundy

The Duchy of Burgundy was a semi-independent duchy that ruled over eastern France and much of the Low Countries from 1032 to 1477, nominally a vassal state of the Kingdom of France. The duchy was given to the House of Burgundy by Robert II of France after he ended the Kingdom of Burgundy, and the duchy would exist as a vassal of France for over 400 years. The ducal territory once ruled the Burgundian Netherlands, but both Burgundy and the Netherlands would be inherited by the Habsburgs in 1477.
