Duchess Antonella of Brabant (born 15 October 777) was the Duchess of Brabant from 29 October 793 with Duke Arnoul of Brabant.
Biography[]
Doge Giovanni of Venice's sister-in-law Alessandra Galbaio had an affair in January 777 four years after Alessandra was widowed by the murder of Giovanni's younger brother Leone Galbaio, with Giovanni making a move and giving her a good tumble in her chambers. Antonella was the product of this relationship, born in October. A day later, Giovanni acknowledged that she was his daughter; she remained illegitimate, but she was sanctioned as his daughter and could be married off to form alliances. She was betrothed to Duke Arnoul of Brabant while she was a day old; Arnoul was six years old.
On 15 October 793, Antonella turned sixteen and came of age, meaning that she could then marry Duke Arnoul. On 29 October, she formally married the duke and moved to the Duchy of Brabant in present-day Belgium to become the Duchess of Brabant, leaving her family behind.
