Andrew Morgan "Drew" Stiles (1923 - 2023) was a Private First Class in the US Army who served in the US 1st Infantry Division during World War II.

Biography[]

Andrew Stiles was born in 1923 from Chicago, Illinois, and he earned a college degree in journalism; he wanted to be a photographer for Life Magazine after graduation. However, he was instead drafted into the US Army, and he went to boot camp in early 1944. Stiles was assigned to the US 1st Infantry Division, and he fought in D-Day, Operation Cobra, the Liberation of Paris, the Battle of Aachen, the Battle of Hurtgen Forest, the Battle of the Bulge, the Battle of Remagen, and the liberation of the Berga concentration camp. Stiles took pictures of the concentration camp to raise awareness of the Holocaust among the American public, and he would publish these pictures after returning home from the war in 1945. He married a female journalist and witnessed the birth of their first child Drew Jr.

Stiles would go on to have a successful career in journalism, working for the Chicago Sun-Times. He reunited with his squad every year until his death from a heart-attack.
