Drangiana was a historical region and administrative region of the Achaemenid Empire, located along the border of Iran and Afghanistan. It was inhabited by Iranians before being subdued by the Medes and then the Persians, and, from 330 to 329 BC, the Macedonian king Alexander the Great conquered the region from the Persians. Drangiana remained under Seleucid rule until the mid-2nd century BC, when it was conquered by the expanding Parthian empire.
