Drakon of Thebes

Drakon of Thebes (died 427 BC) was a Champion of Boeotia during the Peloponnesian War.

Biography[]

Drakon was born in Thebes, Boeotia, Ancient Greece, and he claimed descent from Heracles. Drakon trained at the gymnasium alongside Melanippos, who was his lover until Drakon joined the Champions of Boeotia and pursued a different trajectory, influenced by the head champion Deianeira's membership in the Cult of Kosmos. In 427 BC, the Spartan general Stentor sent the mercenary Kassandra to locate and assassinate Drakon amid Sparta's Boeotia campaign against Athens, and Kassandra found him training with his sword along Lake Kopais. Kassandra snuck up behind him and stabbed him in the back, publicly killing him and scaring off the bystanders.
