Dragovit (734-) was King of the Veleti from 740 to 789 AD.
Biography[]
Dragovit was born in present-day Brandenburg, Germany in 734 AD to the Slavic Veleti tribe, and he went on to become their king in 740 AD at the age of 6. His tribe was hostile to Charlemagne's Franks, leading to the Frankish invasion of the pagan lands beyond the Elbe. In 789, Dragovit was forced to pledge his loyalty to the Franks, surrender hostages, and allow Christian missionaries to convert his people.
