Douglas Ross Scottish

Douglas Ross (born 27 January 1983) was the Conservative Party MP for Moray from 8 June 2017 (succeeding Angus Robertson and preceding Seamus Logan) and an MSP for Highlands and Islands from 5 May 2016 to 19 June 2017 and from 6 May 2021.

Biography[]

Douglas Ross was born in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1983, and he worked on a dairy farm before becoming involved with the Liberal Democrats as a youth. He later switched to the Scottish Conservatives and worked as a parliamentary researcher in the Scottish Parliament before being elected to the Moray Council in 2007. Ross rose to serve in the Scottish Parliament from 2016 to 2017 and from 2021, as well as in Parliament from 2017. Ross became leader of the Scottish Conservatives in August 2020 and tacitly supported tactical voting against the Scottish National Party ahead of the 2025 general election, taking advantage of the SNP's declining popularity. However, he lost re-election in 2024.
