Donald Sutherland

Donald McNichol Sutherland (17 July 1935 – 20 June 2024) was a Canadian actor and political activist. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick and raised in Nova Scotia, he became an actor in Britain during the 1960s before relocating from London to Hollywood in 1968. He became a one-time Primetime Emmy and two-time Golden Globe winner, becoming one of Canada's highest-decorated actors. He was inducted into the Canadian Walk of Fame in 2000 and the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2000, and he was recognized with a Canada Post stamp in October 2023. He died in Miami in 2024 at the age of 88.

Sutherland's involvement with the anti-Vietnam War movement in the early 1970s led to the FBI surveilling him, and he was also a strong supporter of the social democratic New Democratic Party. He also became a blogger for The Huffington Post in 2008, supporting Barack Obama's presidential bid.
