Donald Margolis (20 March 1948 - 5 April 2009) was an American air traffic controller from Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was inadvertently responsible for the 2009 Wayfarer 515 crash, resulting in the deaths of 167 passengers.
In April 2009, Donald shot himself and was rushed to an emergency hospital where he died shortly after.
Biography[]
Donald Margolis was born in the United States on March 20th 1948 to a family of Israeli descent. For several years, he worked as an air traffic controller in New Mexico. At some point Donald married to an unnamed woman and later birthed a daughter Jane Margolis in 1982.
One day, Donald found out that Jane is using drugs and began to attend rehab meetings with her. She comes clean off heroin circa 2007. Donald later became a landlord with Jane of a property which Jesse Pinkman would soon begin renting. Jane starts dating Jesse and soon falls back into drug use, much to the disappointment of Donald. She is forced back into rehab meetings by Donald but continues using heroin with Jesse until she overdoses and dies of asphyxiation in March 2009.
Shortly afterwards, Donald returned to work as an air traffic controller but accidentally caused an airplane collision which claimed the lives of 167 passengers. The crash would become headline news statewide. Due to the guilt of this event, and losing his daughter weeks before, Donald shot himself in April 2009. He was airlifted to an emergency hospital but died hours later as a result of heavy blood loss.
