Dominik von Konigsegg-Rothenfels was the son of Leopold Wilhelm von Konigsegg-Rothenfels, and he studied to be a Catholic priest before joining the Reichsarmee in Hungary and commanding a cuirassier regiment against the Turks. He went on to serve under Eugene of Savoy during the War of the Spanish Succession, distinguishing himself at the 1706 Siege of Turin. From 1714 to 1717, he commanded the Austrian Netherlands' garrisons, and he served as a diplomat to Paris and Warsaw before becoming a Field Marshal in 1723. On Claude Florimond de Mercy's death in 1734, he assumed command of the Austrian forces in Italy, and he was defeated at the Battle of Guastalla in 1734 and laid down his command in Tyrol in 1735. In 1737, he was sacked after being defeated by the Turks, but he assumed command of the Austrian Netherlands once again in 1744 and was wounded at the Battle of Fontenoy. He died in 1751.
