Domingo Caycedo (4 August 1783 – 1 July 1843) was Vice President of Gran Colombia from 3 May 1831 to 20 October 1831 (succeeding Francisco de Paula Santander and preceding Jose Maria Obando) and acting President of New Granada from 30 April to 21 November 1831 (succeeding Rafael Urdaneta and preceding Obando).
Biography[]
Domingo Caycedo was born in Santa Fe de Bogota, Colombia in 1783, and he served in the Spanish Army during the Peninsular War. In 1810, he returned to the Americas to take part in the South American Wars of Liberation, and he served under Simon Bolivar during the wars of liberation. He was captured by the Spanish, and he was freed under probation, later fighting at the Battle of Boyaca in 1819. In 1827, he served as Governor of Neiva, and he rose to the rank of General of the Army and became a member of Bolivar's inner circle. Caycedo went on to serve as President of Gran Colombia in 1830 and as Vice President of New Granada in 1831 and in 1841, and he served as acting president for a total of 11 times. He died in 1843.
