Dobrica Cosic

Dobrica Cosic (29 December 1921-18 May 2014) was President of FR Yugoslavia from 15 June 1992 to 1 June 1993, preceding Zoran Lilic.

Biography[]

Dobrica Cosic was born in Velika Drenova, Kingdom of Yugoslavia in 1921, and he served in the communist Yugoslav Partisans during World War II. During the 1960s, he came to support a decentralized Yugoslav government, and he became the most influential member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. In 1989, he endorsed the leadership of Slobodan Milosevic, and he helped to raise Radovan Karadzic to the leadership of the Bosnian Serbs two years later. In 1992, he became President of FR Yugoslavia, and he was removed from that position in 1993 for turning against Milosevic. He died at his home in Belgrade, Serbia in 2014.
