
Dmitry Ivanovich Ryabyshev (23 February 1894-18 November 1985) was a Lieutenant-General in the Soviet Red Army during World War II.
Biography[]
Dmitry Ivanovich Ryabyshev was born on 23 February 1894 in Kolotovka, Don Host Oblast, Russian Empire, and he joined the Bolsheviks in 1917. Ryabyshev commanded the 42nd Brigade of the 1st Cavalry Army's 14th Division during the Russian Civil War, having served in the Imperial Russian Army during World War I for two years. From 1922 to 1929, he commanded one of the North Caucasus Military District's cavalry divisions, and he led a mechanized division during World War II. From 30 August to 5 October 1941, he commanded the Soviet Southern Front, and he then took command of the Soviet 57th Army. Ryabyshev later led a rifle corps during the counterattacks against the Axis Powers, and he ended the war on 3 May 1945 when he met British Army troops at Wismar and Wittenberg in Saxony. He died in 1985 in Rostov-on-Don.
