
Djafar al-Afghani (1963-26 February 1994), born Mourad Si Ahmed, was the Emir of the Armed Islamic Group (GIA) from August 1993 to February 1994, succeeding Abdelhak Layada and preceding Cherif Gousmi.
Biography[]
Mourad Si Ahmed was born in Algeria in 1963, and he had no education beyond primary school and instead became a black marketer. Under the nom de guerre of "Djafar al-Afghani", he became the Emir of the Armed Islamic Group in August 1993, and he oversaw a campaign of assassinations of journalists and intellectuals, later expanding his targets to secular civilians, foreigners, and FIS loyalists. He was killed on 26 February 1994 and succeeded by Cherif Gousmi.
