The Disciples of Christ (D.O.C.) was an white supremacist skinhead gang that was formed in the early 1990s in Venice Beach, Los Angeles, California by Cameron Alexander and Derek Vinyard. The gang's purpose, according to Derek, was to make sure that no white person should be afraid in their own neighborhood, although the group was racially motivated, with a Neo-Nazi ideology. The gang was rivals with the African-American Crips gang, who moved into Venice Beach from Inglewood and Compton, and it carried out racist attacks against non-whites, whom they viewed as freeloaders. One of the group's most infamous acts was the attack on "Archie's Ranch Market", a store that was purchased from Archie Miller by a Korean man who fired Derek's friends and hired 40 illegal immigrants (called "border jumpers" by the extremists); the gang beat the employees badly, wrecked the store, and stole the cash register. Later, Derek Vinyard would leave the gang and convince his younger brother, Daniel Vinyard, to do the same after Derek's release from prison in 1998, but the gang continued to exist even after their departure.
