
Dionigi di Naldo (1465-1510) was a Venetian condottiero during the Italian Wars.
Biography[]
Dionigi di Naldo was born in Brisighella, Republic of Venice in 1465, and he founded the "Brisighelli" mercenary company in 1492. From 1492 to 1496, his forces served King Ferrante I of Naples during the war against France, and his company later served Regent Caterina Sforza of Forli. In November–December 1499, he commanded the fortress of Imola, which surrendered to Cesare Borgia's Papal army after Dionigi's son was brought to him, having been rescued from Sforza's castle. After the death of Pope Alexander VI in 1503, he entered the service of Venice, conquering the Romagna region. In 1506, he became Lord of Calamello, and he went to war with the Holy Roman Empire in 1508 during the War of the League of Cambrai. On 17 May 1509, he became Captain of the Venetian infantry. He died in Venice in 1510 at the age of 45.
