Biography[]

Dino DeMantagna was born in Naples, Italy in 1890, and he came to the United States during the early 20th century. He opened his own barber shop on Grand and Mott Streets, and he was associated with the Corleone crime family until 1945, when the Tattaglia crime family muscled in on his store and forced him to pay them protection money. In August 1945, Corleone outsider Aldo Trapani entered the store after killing Angelo Pisano and Marzio Maraldo, and Trapani forced DeMantagna to agree to paying the Corleones protection money. In December 1945, he was hit by a stray bullet during the assassination attempt on Vito Corleone in front of his store, and his chest wounds were treated at a hospital, allowing for DeMantagna to return to running his business.
