Diego Noboa

Diego Noboa y Arteta (15 April 1789-3 November 1870) was President of Ecuador from 8 December 1850 to 12 September 1851, succeeding Manuel de Ascasubi and preceding Jose Maria Urvina.

Biography[]

Diego Noboa was born in Guayaquil, Spanish Empire in 1789. He practiced law before participating in the Ecuadorian War of Independence and serving as treasurer of Gran Colombia's Guayaquil department before Ecuador achieved independence in 1830. Noboa served as ambassador to Peru in 1831, President of the Senate in 1839, and as a leader of the Marcista Revolution of 1845, alongside Jose Joaquin de Olmedo and Vicente Ramon Roca. Noboa engaged in a power struggle with Roca during the mid-1840s and ultimately overthrew the authoritarian Manuel de Ascasubi in 1850 with the help of General Jose Maria Urvina. He served as President until September 1851, when the garrison of Guayaquil deposed Noboa in favor of Urvina. Noboa died in 1870.
