
Des Plaines is a city in Cook County, Illinois, located just north of O'Hare International Airport in the suburbs of Chicago. The first white settlers arrived in 1833, and they named the town after the Des Plaines River. German immigrants arrived during the 1840s and 1850s, and it was incorporated in 1869. Des Plaines experienced rapid growth with the construction of O'Hare International Airport and the suburbanization which followed the end of World War II, and the first McDonald franchise opened in Des Plaines in 1955. In 2018, Des Plaines had a population of 58,959 people.
