Biography[]
Dennis Moore was born in Anthony, Kansas in 1945, and he served in the US Army from 1970 to 1973 before becoming Assistant Kansas Attorney General. He went on to serve as Johnson County District Attorney from 1977 to 1989 and in the US House of Representatives from 1999 to 2011; he defeated the staunch conservative Vince Snowbarger to win a seat (covering the Kansas City metropolitan area) which had previously been held by a line of moderate Republicans. He served until 2011, during which time he affiliated himself with the centrist Blue Dog Coalition and the New Democrats, supported gun control, supported a woman's right to choose, and supported environmental and animal protection. He died of cancer in 2021 in Overland Park at the age of 75.
