Dennis Daugaard

Dennis Martin Daugaard (11 June 1953-) was the Republican Governor of South Dakota from 8 January 2011 to 5 January 2019, succeeding Mike Rounds and preceding Kristi Noem.

Biography[]

Dennis Martin Daugaard was born in Garretson, South Dakota in 1953, and he went to school in Dell Rapids. He worked as an attorney in Chicago, Illinois from 1978 to 1981 before returning to South Dakota. He worked as an executive banker in Sioux Falls from 1981 to 1990, as Development Director of the Children's Home Society of South Dakota from 1990 to 2002 and Executive Director from 2002 to 2009, as Lieutenant Governor from 2003 to 2011, and as Governor from 2011 to 2019. As Governor, he established the Office of Tribal Relations, and, from May to September 2016, he was the country's most popular governor with a 74% approval rating.
