The US 12th Special Ground Operations Regiment, nicknamed "Demon Dogs" or "Devil Dogs" in homage of the nickname the Imperial German Army gave the US Marine Corps in World War I, is a multi-branch special forces counter-terrorist unit founded in 2019.
Its purpose was for covert operations in countries experiencing severe terrorist threat, particularly Syria, which was undergoing a civil war at the time. The Demon Dogs were to neutralize certain targets that threatened the Western world and its people. It is currently led by Sergeant Marcus Griggs.
They notably managed to capture al-Qatala founder and leader Omar Sulaman and guarded him at the US Embassy in Damascus; though, the ensuing rescue of Sulaman killed an entire platoon of Demon Dogs. In 2020, the Demon Dogs deployed to Verdansk, Republic of Georgia as part of the Armistice to fight off invading al-Qatala forces. They also deployed in October 2022 to Al Mazrah, Abkhazia alongside Task Force 141 to capture Quds Force major Hassan Zyani.
