The Democratic Party was a short-lived liberal political party in Mexico which was founded in 1910 by Bernardo Reyes. The Democratic Party was founded as a front for Reyes' political ambitions, and Reyes and his supporters believed that he should succeed Ramon Corral as vice-president in 1910, thus making him Porfirio Diaz's de facto heir. The Democratic Party grew in popularity due to Corral's unpopularity, and Diaz responded by banishing Reyes to Europe. Reyes, lacking the stomach for rebellion and alarmed that the Democratic Party was growing out of his control, went quietly, and Diaz was peacefully re-elected in 1910.
