Delmonico's

Delmonico's is America's first fine dining restaurant, located at 56 Beaver Street in the Financial District of Manhattan, New York City. The original Delmonico's was founded by the Swiss immigrants Giovanni and Pietro Delmonico in 1827 at 23 William Street, although it later moved to 56 Beaver Street in August 1837. Delmonico's became one of the most famous restaurants in the city, hosting major speaker events, Edward, Prince of Wales' visit to New York in 1860, and a meeting between Republican presidential nominee James G. Blaine and his wealthy backers in 1884. While the first Delmonico's at 56 Beaver Street closed in 1890 and was later rebuilt in 1891 and closed in 1917, OScar Tucci reopened Delmonico's in 1926. The restaurant is most famous for its ribeye steak, and the restaurant claimed to have invented "Chicken a la King," eggs Benedict, and Baked Alaska.
