DedSec is a worldwide secret hacking collective which dedicated itself to exposing political and corporate corruption in the common world. The group was founded by former Umeni-Zulu engineers who, after being jailed and released from prison, decided to fight against corporate injustice and coruption. Inspired by Anonymous and LulzSec, DedSec's motto was Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? ("Who will watch the watchmen?"), referencing their commitment to fighting against police/surveillance states and governmental overreach while serving their own brand of justice. It was common practice among DedSec members to use guns only as a last resort, as the vast majority of their operations involved cyberattacks. DedSec operated as a decentralized network of local cells across the world, operating out of secret "hackerspaces" in major urban centers, chief among them Chicago, San Francisco, and London. During the 2020s, in post-Brexit London, DedSec led the fight against the proliferation of right-wing populist ideologies such as xenophobia, authoritarianism, and demagoguery, and, after DedSec was framed for a series of terrorist attacks carried out by the anarchist hacktivist group Zero Day, DedSec was forced to fight against the Albion Private Services private military company, which had been granted control of London's law enforcement and ctOS surveillance system by the British government.
