Declan O'Loan

Declan O'Loan (born 5 August 1951) was a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly for North Antrim from 7 March 2007 to 5 May 2011, succeeding Sean Farren and preceding Jim Allister. O'Loan was a member of the Social Democratic and Labor Party.

Biography[]

Declan O'Loan was born in Carnlough, County Antrim, Northern Ireland on 5 August 1951 to a Catholic Irish family. He studied at Imperial College London and Fitzwilliam College at Cambridge, and he became a member of the social democratic Social Democratic and Labor Party (SDLP). O'Loan was a member of the Ballymena Borough Council before becoming a member of the Northern Ireland Assembly in 2007, only to be suspended by the SDLP for advocating a merger between the SDLP and Sinn Fein to form a single nationalist party. He lost re-election in 2011.
