
Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (born 1971) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-FL 26) from 3 January 2019 to 3 January 2021, succeeding Carlos Curbelo and preceding Carlos A. Gimenez.
Biography[]
Debbie Mucarsel-Powell was born in Ecuador in 1971, and she immigrated to the United States as a 14-year-old; her father had been shot and killed back in Ecuador. She became an associate dean at Florida International University, and, in 2018, she ran for the US House of Representatives as a Democrat. She defeated Republican incumbent Carlos Curbelo, and she became a member of the New Democrats. She lost re-election to Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez in 2020.
