Debbie Edwards

Debbie Edwards (1859-) was an American settler in Texas who was kidnapped by the Comanche from 1868 to 1873. The daughter of Aaron and Martha Edwards and the sister of Lucy and Ben Edwards, she may have been the illegitimate daughter of her uncle Ethan Edwards, who especially liked her. In 1868, she was captured by Chief Scar during the Edwards Farm massacre, and she was raised to be one of Scar's wives. Debbie came to accept the Comanche way of living, atlhough her love of her family was rekindled when Ethan Edwards and her cousin Martin Pawley came to rescue her from the New Mexico Territory in 1873. Though Ethan initially intended to kill her rather than accept his "gone-native" niece back into the family, he and Pawley eventually rescued Debbie at the Battle of Seven Fingers and brought her home.
