Davyd Vazhayevych Zhvania (20 July 1967-9 May 2022) was a Georgian-Ukrainian Christian democratic politician who served in the Verkhovna Rada from 31 March 2002 to 27 November 2014.
Biography[]
Davyd Vazhayevych Zhvania was born in Tbilisi, Georgian SSR, Soviet Union in 1967, and he served in the Soviet Border Troops from 1986 to 1988. He left Georgia during the reign of Zviad Gamsakhurdia, emigrating to Ukraine in 1991 and becoming a citizen in 1999. Zhvania initially entered politics with Our Ukraine, being elected to the Verkhovna Rada in 2002; he switched to the Christian Democratic Union in 2010 and to the Party of Regions in 2013. Zhvania was killed in the Russian shelling of Novopokrovka, Zaporizhzhia Oblast during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.
