David Rogerson Williams (8 March 1776 – 17 November 1830) was a member of the US House of Representatives (DR-SC 3) from 4 March 1805 to 3 March 1809 (succeeding Benjamin Huger and preceding Robert Witherspoon) and from 4 March 1811 to 3 March 1813 (succeeding Witherspoon and preceding Theodore Gourdin) and Governor of South Carolina from 10 December 1814 to 5 December 1816 (succeeding Joseph Alston and preceding Andrew Pickens).
Biography[]
David Rogerson Williams was born in Darlington County, South Carolina in 1776, and he worked as a lawyer in Rhode Island from 1797 to 1800 and as a newspaper editor, cotton planter, and manufacturing entrepreneur back in Darlington County. He went on to serve in the US House of Representatives from 1805 to 1809 and from 1811 to 1813 and as Governor from 1814 to 1816, and, as an ardent nationalist, he served as a Brigadier-General during the War of 1812. From 1824 until his death in 1830, he was a State Senator.
