David Logan OR

David Logan (5 April 1824-26 March 1874) was the Republican Mayor of Portland, Oregon from 1863 to 1864, succeeding William H. Farrar and preceding Henry Failing.

Biography[]

David Logan was born in Kentucky in 1824, the son of Abraham Lincoln's law partner Stephen T. Logan, and he was raised in Springfield, Illinois. David himself worked as a partner at Lincoln's law firm before his drinking led to his falling out with his father, and he served in the US Army during the Mexican-American War before moving to California and from there to Lafayette, Oregon, where he opened a law practice. Logan moved his practice to Portland shortly after, and he served as a territorial legislator in 1854, as a delegate to the 1857 constitutional convention, and as Mayor of Portland from 1863 to 1864. He retired to a farm in Yamhill County in 1871, and he died there in 1874.
