David Lander (1528-1572) was an English explorer who founded the colony of New Cruxton in present-day Venezuela in 1572. His colony came into conflict with the Spanish colony of Tumanada amid a period of heightened tensions between England and Spain, and he was killed while fighting off Spanish attacks on his colony.
