
David Ige (born 15 January 1957) was Governor of Hawaii (D) from 1 December 2014 to 5 December 2022, succeeding Neil Abercrombie and preceding Josh Green.
Biography[]
David Ige was born in Pearl City, Hawaii in 1957 to a family of Okinawan descent, and he worked as an engineer before entering politics as a Democrat. Ige served in the state house from 1985 to 1995, in the state senate from 1995 to 2014, and as Governor from 2014 to 2022. As Governor, he committed the state to meeting its greenhouse gas emission targets under the Paris Agreement even after Donald Trump withdrew the United States, and he also declared a state of emergency due to Hawaii's status as the leading state in the nation for homelessness.
