David I of Scotland (1084-24 May 1153) was the King of Scotland from 1124 to 1153, succeeding Alexander I of Scotland and preceding Malcolm IV of Scotland.
Biography[]
David was born in 1084 to Malcolm III of Scotland and Margaret of Wessex, and he was from the House of Dunkeld. After the death of his parents, he was exiled by his uncle Duncan III of Scotland, and he was raised at the court of Henry I of England. In 1124 he defeated his brother Alexander I of Scotland to become the king of Scotland, with Henry I backing him. David fought his nephew Malcom MacAlexander, who rebelled against his rule, and after the death of Henry I, he fought against Stephen of Blois, who seized power from Henry's daughter Matilda of England. In the 1138 Battle of the Standard, Scotland's army was defeated, although he was able to expand his power in northern England. He died in 1153, a year before Stephen of Blois.
