David Henry Mercer

David Henry Mercer (9 July 1857-10 January 1919) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-NE 2) from 4 March 1893 to 3 March 1903, succeeding William A. McKeighan and preceding Gilbert Hitchcock.

Biography[]

David Henry Mercer was born in Benton County, Iowa in 1857, and he was raised in Adams County, Illinois and then in Brownville, Nebraska. There, he was admitted to the bar in 1882 and served as city clerk and police judge. He moved to Omaha in 1885 and became the chairman of its Republican city and county committees before serving in the US House of Representatives from 1893 to 1903. He then settled in Washington DC, where he continued his law practice, and he died back in Omaha in 1919.
