David Cicilline

David Cicilline (born 15 July 1961) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-RI 1) from 3 January 2011 to 1 June 2023, succeeding Patrick J. Kennedy and preceding Gabe Amo.

Biography[]

David Cicilline was born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1961, and he established a branch of College Democrats at Brown University with his classmate John F. Kennedy Jr.. He worked as a lawyer in Washington DC before serving in the Rhode Island House of Representaties from 1995 to 2003, as Mayor of Providence from 2003 to 2011, and in the US House of Representatives from 2011. He was the first openly gay mayor of a US state capital, and he became Vice-Chair of the Progressive Democrats in the US Congress. He resigned in 2023 to become the president and CEO of the Rhode Island Foundation.
