Darya Dugina

Darya Aleksandrovna Dugina (15 December 1992-20 August 2022) was a Russian nationalist journalist and political activist and the daughter of far-right ideologue Aleksandr Dugin. She was assassinated in a car bombing on 20 August 2022, with her father speculated to have been the real target, and the Ukrainian government being suspected of ordering the assassination attempt.

Biography

Darya Aleksandrovna Dugina was born in Moscow, Russia on 15 December 1992, the daughter of Aleksandr Dugin. She worked as a journalist for Russia Today and the conservative television channel Tsargrad under the pen name "Darya Platonova", ultimately becoming chief editor of the website United World International, which was owned by Vladimir Putin's powerful ally Yevgeny Prigozhin. She was an outspoken supporter of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, claiming that the massacres of Ukrainian civilians during the invasion were staged; both the United States and British governments sanctioned her for her involvement in Russia's disinformation campaigns. On 20 August 2022, she was killed in a car bombing in the Moscow suburb of Bolshiye Vyazyomy after attending an art festival; her father had switched to another car at the last minute, sparing him from assassination. Ukrainian authorities denied any involvement.
