Darwin Phelps

Darwin Phelps (17 April 1807 – 14 December 1879) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-PA 23) from 4 March 1869 to 3 March 1871, succeeding Thomas Williams and preceding Ebenezer McJunkin.

Biography[]

Darwin Phelps was born in East Granby, Connecticut in 1807, and he was raised in Portage, Ohio. He became a lawyer in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania before serving on the Kittanning town council from 1844 to 1845, 1849, 1852, 1855, 1858 to 1859, and 1861, and as a delegate to the 1860 Republican National Convention. He also served in the State House in 1865 and in the US House of Representatives from 1869 to 1871, and he died in 1879.
