Dardania was a Trojan city-state which ruled over the cities of Dardanus and Abydos in the Troad region of Anatolia. The Dardanians were descended from Zeus' son Dardanus, and they co-ruled the Troad region with Troy from the Dardanelles strait. The House of Dardanoi was older than the House of Troy, but Troy came to be the stronger state; during the Trojan War of 1193-1183 BC, the Dardanian prince Aeneas came to the aid of Troy before being forced to flee across the Mediterranean with his band of Trojans following the fall of Troy.
