Danny Dietz

Danny Phillip Dietz (26 January 1980 – 28 June 2005) was a US Navy SEALs Gunner's Mate Second Class who was killed during the Afghanistan War.

Biography

Danny Dietz was born in Aurora, Colorado in 1980, and he joined the US Navy in 1999; while stationed in Virginia Beach, he met his wife, who he married in 2003. In April 2005, Dietz and his special reconnaissance element were deployed to Afghanistan, and, on 28 June, he was part of a team of US Navy SEALs who were sent to eliminate Taliban leader Ahmad Shah near Asadabad. The team was spotted by Taliban sympathizers, who pointed out their locations to the insurgents, and Dietz - who was serving as a spotter - was the team's first casualty.
