Daniel Pry (1843-) was an Australian fur trapper and explorer who lived in Tasmania during the late 19th century. In 1886, he established a settlement at present-day Queenstown, which eventually outgrew its humble beginnings as a small logging town. After a local grove of trees was cut down, Pry decided to explore further inland, walking alone through dense forests before choosing the site for a new settlement, Teepookana, which became a small fishing village with a church. Pry, joined by Tobin Gibson and Richard Whitewater, then ventured further southeast and founded a small outpost in the middle of the woods, which they called Prytown. Pry would return to Teepookana to serve as its mayor, affiliating himself with the new Protectionist Party due to his support for the local timber industry over imported lumber.
